Daymé Arocena is a Grammy-nominated and Juno-award-winning Afro-Cuban jazz singer, composer and choir director often compared to renowned artists such as Celia Cruz, Aretha Franklin, La Lupe, and Ella Fitzgerald and is considered Cuba’s “finest young female singer”. Her debut LP Nueva Era received acclaim and was listed among NPR’s 50 favorite albums of the year. Another of her projects, “Sonocardiogram”, was among the four finalists for the British Critics’ Awards, showcasing her vision of Cuban music and Caribbean rhythms and styles. She’s received praise from New York Times, The Guardian, Billboard, plus she has presented masterclasses & workshops in some of the most prestigious music conservatories in the US, namely Berklee and NYU. Furthermore, Daymé has performed in 25 different countries all over the world, including prestigious festivals worldwide, from Glastonbury to Primavera Sound. Alkemi is an album that strives to achieve the “golden formula”, the ideal harmony between Jazz and its Pop, Latin, Caribbean, Urban, and Modern counterparts in Afro-Latin culture and brings Daymé out of her comfort zone in order to show her versatility. She completed the “Signature Artist” program at Berklee College of Music and got a scholarship for the Old Town School of Folk Music – Concerts. She has been nominated for the High Impact Scholars, Artists, and Journalists from Latin America Fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin. This fellowship, is funded by The Mellon Foundation.
